The Dawoodi Bohras are a Muslim community living in over 40 countries across the world. Followers of their leader, His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin (T.U.S), Bohras are well educated businesspeople and qualified professionals in various fields. With a distinctive culture, they strive to embrace modernity while staying true to their traditions and continue to be active, peaceful and law-abiding citizens dedicated to the betterment of all humanity.
The Melbourne Dawoodi Bohra Community (Jamaat) is one of Australia’s most well-established, made up of over 150+ families. The Jamaat comprises a diverse group of people from around the world including India, Pakistan, Africa, Sri Lanka, America, London and many more.
The first settlers that formed the Melbourne Jamaat came to Australia in search of educational opportunities and the chance to further their careers. The allure of the city’s multicultural communities, its gorgeous landscapes, thriving economy and the prospect of bringing up a family in such beautiful surrounds drew them to stay on, and today, Melbourne boasts one of the most active and robust Dawoodi Bohra communities in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Dawoodi Bohras are united by a set of centuries old principles; an unwavering commitment to the faith, a genuine love for the countries in which they live, a belief in the value of society, education, women’s empowerment, engagement with other faiths, physical health and well-being, and a responsibility to care for the environment and all creatures that dwell within it.
Here in Melbourne, the Dawoodi Bohras actively organise and participate in social and charitable events that contribute towards the development and prosperity of the places they live. In the past, the community has organised food drives, blood donation camps and clean-up days, among others.

Our spiritual leader, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin (T.U.S) has divided the matters of the Jamaat into 12 departments (Umoor). Just like different departments of an organisation, each Umoor has its own scope of work and will focus on improving every aspect of a community member’s life.
The formation of 12 Umoor Teams provides a platform for community members of different skills to come together and contribute to the progress of the Jamaat. Furthermore, the 12 Umoor will increase the Jamaat’s efficiency and transform it into a goal-driven organisation.
